Cartea, deloc conformist?, a fost publicat? sub presiunea prestigiului literar ?i social al autorului dar ?i datorit? aptitudinii prozatorului de a crea parabole epice complexe care ocoleau sau dep??eau barajele cenzurii. �n epoca lui Nicolae Ceau?escu, perioada anterioar? putea fi criticat? �n detalii dar nu ?i �n esen??, fiindc? ea fusese perioada �n care se formaser? ?i activaser? responsabilii politici principali, inclusiv Nicolae Ceau?escu. Cel mai iubit dintre pamanteni (English: The Earth's Most Beloved Son) is the last novel by the Romanian author Marin Preda. Written in 1980, it is an intricate fresco of Communist Romania and the horrors of the Stalinist era. The book's overt depiction of political repression at an early stage of Communist rule was allowed to pass through censorship following the change in tone to more nationalist and anti-Soviet attitudes under Nicolae Ceau?escu.
A screen version of the book, directed by ?erban Marinescu and starring ?tefan Iordache in the role of Petrini, was released in 1993.
A promising intellectual is arrested on false accusations by the repressive secret police and is sentenced to forced labor in prison at the end of the Stalinist era. Following his release, he can only find the lowliest of jobs, and is trapped in a chain of humiliation and survival in a totalitarian regime dominated by despotic rulers, odious snitches and moral compromise. In this solid adaptation of the eponymous cult novel written by Marin Preda, the great Romanian actor ?tefan Iordache (the malefic dictator in Luxury Hotel) is just as compelling playing the victim descending into the hell of a life unfulfilled.
